1. Decide that you want to change. Sounds obvious, doesn’t it? But you must simply and clearly make the decision that you are going to change. This tells your mind that you are ready to leave behind what you once were and to step into a new future.

2. Know exactly what you want. This is so important in order to steer yourself in the right direction. You would be unable to follow a map if you had no idea of where you want to end up! Be able to describe what you want in vivid detail and with diamond-like clarity.

3. Visualise. Visualising is not just seeing. Use all your senses. Create an idyllic scene in your mind and incorporate all your senses. Don’t just see the house of your dreams, hear your brand new sound system belting out your favourite song as you take a tour around the rooms; smell that glorious bunch of Oriental lilies on the hall table; touch the soft, smooth leather of your designer lounge suite; taste the salty spray from the ocean on your lips as you wander out on the deck. You get the picture!

4. Focus on the positive. Make sure you spend your time thinking about what you want rather than getting rid of what you don’t want. Rather than wishing you could leave your current job, focus on all the incredible benefits your new job has to offer.

5. Affirm your desires in the positive, present tense. Nobody ever overcame an illness by affirming to themselves “I wish I wasn’t sick”. Seeing yourself in perfect health and affirming, for example, “every cell in my body vibrates with abundant energy, vitality and perfect health” is much more likely to set you on the road to recovery. Stating your affirmation in the present tense tells your mind that you want this right now. If you start your affirmation with “I will be…” or “I want to be…” you are always keeping the object of your desire out there in the future and keeping yourself in a perpetual state of wanting.

6. Energise and empower your thoughts with positive emotions. Introducing positive feelings of love, joy, success, happiness and so on will fast track the physical manifestation of what you want. Using the power of emotion will give meaning and direction to your thoughts and soon they will become your beliefs. This is the energy that will activate your thoughts and cause them to take form in your life. Generate big and exciting thoughts around your desires.

7. Set yourself a realistic and achievable timeframe. Know when you want to reach your dream. If you don’t set yourself time limits your mind has no idea when you want this dream to become a reality. Build your timeframe into your visions, for example if  you want to be living in that new house by Christmas, bring in a Christmas tree (they smell great, too!) and perhaps a newspaper with the date on top. It is important to keep your timeframe realistic otherwise your mind won’t take it seriously. Sure, it’s possible to make $1,000,000 in the next half hour, but how likely is that going to be for you?

8. Generate belief and expectation – see it as done. All the positive thinking in the world will not help if you do not believe and expect that things will change in your life. Not believing is a very strong negating force which will override your positive thoughts. Use your imagination to envision the future. Start to live your life as if you have already received what you want. Believe and have faith – remain true to what you believe and don’t doubt yourself.

9. Take action. Positive thinking on it’s own is not enough. You must take action every day towards making things manifest in your life. Belief comes through taking action. You need to move towards the object of your desire as it moves towards you. If you don’t know where to start, make a to-do list of baby steps you can take each day to bring your dream into your life. Work backwards from when you will have it in your life and think about what you would need to do to get there. You don’t need to know exactly how it will manifest in your life but you do need to be willing to move towards it. Every tiny step is a step in the right direction and allows you to be open to opportunities that present themselves.

10. Be grateful – even though it hasn’t happened yet. Feeling sincere gratitude puts you in a state of acceptance, which is exactly where you want to be to attract the events, conditions, and circumstances that you want in your life. Expressing true feelings of gratitude magnetizes more things into your life to be grateful for. We’ll look into the staggering attractive power of gratitude in more detail next week.
