Pinot NoirDo you make a mean Pinot Noir? And are you maybe just a teensy bit competitive? Do you want the world to hear about just how great your wine is?

August 18th 2011 is Pinot Smackdown day. It’s a globally celebrated day that pits nation against nation to find out who really does make the world’s best Pinot Noir. With amazing Pinots being produced from regions throughout Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, and of course our Kiwi cousins who make a pretty good drop, there’s a lot to celebrate.

So how does it work?

The Pinot Smackdown takes place across the 24 hours of August 18th, wherever you are in the world. It’s very simple. Taste your favourite Pinot Noir, then tweet about it, including the hashtag #PinotSmackdown, and vote for its country of origin by adding one of the regional voting hashtags below:

  • #AU – Australia
  • #NZ – New Zealand
  • #OR – Oregon
  • #CA – California
  • #WA – Washington
  • #NY – New York
  • #46 – The other 46 US states
  • #FR – France
  • #IT – Italy
  • #DE – Germany (Deutschland)
  • #EU – Europe, beyond France, Germany, Italy
  • #CN – Canada
  • #CH – Chile
  • #AR – Argentina
  • #SA – South Africa
  • #WD – World, as in none previously listed
Early evening Pinot tastings are being held at venues in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Adelaide. If you’d like to get involved, you’re encouraged to send samples of your Pinot Noirs along to these venues to get some buzz happening about your wine. And everyone’s invited to join in the tasting fun. Find out more details here.

The main Twitter action will then take place in the form of a tweet-up and virtual tasting between 7:30 and 9:00pm AEST. So why not get on board and have some fun with one of the world’s greatest winegrape variteies.

You can find out more about the Pinot Smackdown from the event’s founder Ed Thralls at Wine Tonite.

Cheers,

Caroline
